Fall Wreath November 9,2009

So in between painting and unpacking a few stray boxes we gathered some fall leave and made a wreath. Isn't that what you do on a Friday night? LOL!
So Darren, Sam & I sat on the kitchen floor gather leaves in small bunches to form this nice full wreath. I am pleased with the outcome and next year I would try and do two. If you are wondering where I borrowed this fantastic idea.

Baking, Birthdays and More... October 28,29 & 30th, 2009

All is well in our world. Now that we are becoming a little more settled we are finding a normal pattern during our days. Sam & I got right to business the other day making Pumpkin Pound cake it turned out very well. Sam gobbled up his piece as soon as it was cool enough to cut. So we have officially christened our kitchen. The following morning brought a birthday for myself. I was overwhelmed with birthday emails throughout the day. Sam & I managed to get out and run a few errands after our morning of pumpkin pancakes and a latte for me of coarse. We split a late afternoon lunch at A&W with a baby burger each! Yum! The evening was followed with a visit from my lovely sister in law Donna, Brandon and Mom & Dad J. They came bearing well wishes, cake & ice cream. Darren finally returned that evening with more Bday wishes.
The following day found us attempting to convince Sam to don one of his Halloween costumes for Party Day at school. At the last minute we compromised on a Superman shirt and cape! Choose your battles hey! So we were entertained by Sam and his classmates displaying the songs and knowledge learned for the month of October. It was lovely and quite cute.
Hope this finds you and your gobblins enjoying a great evening!

Pumpkin Pancakes from Parent Magazine Oct 2006

1 cup flour
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 egg
1 cup plain yogurt
1/4 pumpkin puree

1. Preheat nonstick skillet on med-high heat. In bowl stir together all ingredients.
2. In a large, beat the egg for 30 sec. Add yogurt, pumpkin puree beat well.
3. Stir in dry ingredients and beat until combined.
4. Great skillet lightly with butter. Pour 1/4 cup batter per pancake, flip with spatula when tops bubble and edges are slightly dry. Cook until other side is golden brown.

Enjoy! This recipe is a staple at our house I actually bake a few pumpkins before the season is over and freeze some in our freezer for enjoyment throughout the winter season.

Our days have been filled with many activities from unpacking and getting sorted. Sam attending preschool, Darren going to and from work, and just plain or everyday activities. And just for fun my car decided to have some major issues and is at the shop as I type. Oh well that is life!
So here are a few pictures from a walk in the park yesterday when the sun came out, Sam sleeping while we waited for the tow truck, one from an afternoon of building towers and the last two pictures are from Sam's school preschool we were at a local garden learning about our surroundings.

Snaps from one of our down days October 6,2009

On this lovely day in October we all had a chance to just enjoy. We headed out for a beautiful walk in the Delta Bog. Sam & Brownynne just ran and ran. YAY! After we had a visit with Papa & Grandma. Life doesn't get any better. The photos are from our walk and a couple from before we headed out today. Sam was up for a few pictures as he wanted to sport Darren's work tie so we just added the bars for enhancement and it Captain Super Sam!

Fishin' with the kids October 4,2009

We recieved a call form Dave this morning asking if Sam would like to come fishing with the kids in the afternoon. And of coarse we said yes. Due to the fact all of our belongings in storage we clarified that there would be enough fishing rods to go around. We headed out a bit early so Bronwynne could have a run around before being on her leash for the remainder of the outing. It was a beautiful day and the kids really enjoyed being able to reel the line in nothing was caught but good time and enjoyment.

New House September 11.2009

So it looks like we are in the process of purchasing a home in Walnut Grove. We have been in full packing mode around here so if you stop by expect to be put to work! Just kidding. So we will be leaving our current residence by September 25/09 and will not be in the new home for around three weeks. I am sure we will be checking our email and such and will still have our cell's if you need to get a hold of us.

Thanks for all of your good thoughts!

First Day of Preschool September 9,2009

First of just wanted to say that these pictures are definately Mommy google pictures. Sam had his first day of preschool and loved every moment of it. He couldn't wait to to strap on his backpack and walk over and meet his new teachers and friends. We got their a bit early and started seeing the kids arrive. When the teachers opened the door, Sam stood in line introduced himself, blew a kiss and that was that! When we picked him up he was smiles galore. Side note I did cry but it is a cry of happiness!

Hope all of you had a great first day too!

A busy day September 6,2009

During our busy day we had headed over Karen's house to drop some of our belongings off. While were there Auntie Karen kindly offered to have Sam join them for the afternoon. No time like the present to say yes, so Darren & I left managed to get a load to our storage facility, pick up more boxes and grab a lovely bite to eat at a Japanese restaurant, YUM! We met up with Sarah, Sam & Karen at a Starbucks what a wonderful way to spend a day!

PNE 2009

Forgot to mention that we took a wee little break from packing to enjoy a bit of summer. We headed down to the PNE after we made apple sauce. It was late afternoon so we grab a bite to eat before we headed into the exhibition grounds. We enjoyed seeing the animals, street entertainment and all the lights & colors. We sat down to watch the monster truck drive around and low and behold Sam showed interest to go and ride on the truck. Now I thought by the time Sam & Darren got there Darren handed over his cash Sam would have decided to not go for the ride. But as Darren said he ran up the stairs and buckled himself in and wait for the truck to start. During the ride I was in the stands practically laughing myself to death. Sam did enjoy the ride but insisted they were driving tooooooo fast! After that adventure we attended the free outdoor concert featuring Johnny Reid it was fantastic!

Last saucy party @ Newlands September 2,2009

We had the pleasure of Donna and the boys come over to help us pick and make apples sauce for the last time. We put everyone to work as soon as they arrived. Buckets were filled, peeling occured and then the simmer of the sauce. I have to say that I didn't expect any apples this year and low and behold the tree surprised us. I am very greatful to have been surround by fresh food. I will take these experiences and continue to evolve. Thanks again Donna, Kyle & Brandon.

Belated Celebration for Darren's Birthday August 26,2009

Last night we had a fantastic dinner in honor of Darren's birthday. Not only has the month been an exceptionally busy one but Darren also was working on his birthday. So we choose a night that he could enjoy being surround by the ones he loves. We had a fabulous dinner including, salmon(with dill sauce), roasted potatoes, salad & corn on the cob. I baked a butter cake and constructed a strawberry shortcake. Mom & Dad were kind enough to bring the corn on the cob and a lovely chocolate ice cream desert. MORE FOTOS

Delicious quick Cake! August 10,2009

Sam & I whipped up this little but tasty cake the other day for our desert! We used our frozen raspberries as that is what we had on hand. I think this is a good go to recipe if you have guest coming. We truly enjoyed it!

RASPBERRY BUTTERMILK CAKE

SERVES6
  • ACTIVE TIME:15 MIN
  • START TO FINISH:1 HR
JUNE 2009
Simple, tender buttermilk cake topped with a nice, sugary crunch: We like it as it is, full of raspberries, but you could easily substitute any sweet, juicy berries you pick up at the farmers market.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup plus 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, divided

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup well-shaken buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries (about 5 oz)
  • Preheat oven to 400°F with rack in middle. Butter and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat butter and 2/3 cup sugar with an electric mixer at medium-high speed until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes, then beat in vanilla. Add egg and beat well.
  • At low speed, mix in flour mixture in 3 batches, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour, and mixing until just combined.
  • Spoon batter into cake pan, smoothing top. Scatter raspberries evenly over top and sprinkle with remaining 1 1/2 Tbsp sugar.
  • Bake until cake is golden and a wooden pick inserted into center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack and cool to warm, 10 to 15 minutes more. Invert onto a plate.

Days away August 4-7,2009d

After Aiden's birthday Darren had a few days off so we decided to head out for a few days of camping. We mentioned this to Grandpa & Honey and they said the were in! So we packed like crazy people and headed out the next day. We were in such hast to get a spot during this hectic season that we didn't even stop at Costco, this was big! Well we managed to wrangle a camp spot and enjoyed a few days away. Sam loved the tent and was quite a willing participant to go to bed at night! Even Bronwynne had a good time but didn't managed enough of leash time as she would have liked.

Aiden's 5th Birthday August 3,2009

Monday evening we all got together to celebrate Aiden's 5th Birthday. A BBQ of hamburgers, hot dogs, tasty salads and some scrumptious deserts were had by all. Sam enjoyed running around with the kids especially when they all had a chance to bounce on the trampoline. When all was said and done it would seem that Aiden had a terrific day.

51' Ford visit from Grandpa August 1,2009

We had coffee with Grandpa this morning as he came over to help with a plumbing problem that we were having. Darren was only home from midnight last night to lunch this morning. So Grandpa was kind enough to come over and lend a hand with the situation. And to Sam's surprise he came in the hot rod, well we couldn't let the moment pass without taking a few snaps.
